Year started at Star of the Sea:  1995

I remember coming to Star of the Sea Church every Sunday morning for the 10:15 mass since I was a young girl.  It was a very special time for my family.  Growing up in a Catholic environment was an important part of my life.  Being a teacher here at Star of the Sea has now given me a chance to share my faith with my students.  Star of the Sea School is one big family where children grow and learn to excel towards their highest potential.

My third grade classroom has a variety of hands-on learning centers which reinforce our curriculum and instructional lessons.  Each month we complete thematic unit studies which allow students to expand their knowledge through research and experimentation.  The third grade classes currently participate in a year-long program of Hawaiian studies.  We study the geography of the Hawaiian Islands, the Polynesian Triangle Voyage of the Hokulea, and much, much more.  Throughout the school year, the students and I will also be working to complete individualized student portfolios.  Each portfolio will showcase the students' progress during the year.  The highlight of the school year is viewing the work and achievements each student portfolio displays; photos, drawings, projects, and essays are just a few examples.

Each year is very exciting for me.  I really enjoy the students and wonderful faculty who I come in contact with every day.  Star of the Sea School, with its Catholic environment and educational surroundings, has so much to offer!
