It has been my life mission to teach as Jesus did. At Star of the Sea I teach with compassion, understanding, insight, and the ability to see all children as God's gifts to making this world a better place.

My students are encouraged to think of each other as family, ohana, and treat each other with respect in both mind and world.  They are asked to accept each other, with all of their limitations and gifts, in humility and strength, to promote the goodness of each other.  With the world as our classroom, they are encouraged to learn about people and nations in country research papers and projects.  I believe the mindset of viewing everyone as being God's children helps to cultivate an awareness of accepting similarities and differences of all people.

Many of the projects in Social Studies are integrated with Language Arts.  The children are encouraged to utilize the Writing Process, not only in research papers, but also:

  • personal journals of historical fiction books read
  • insightful interpretations of past events with statements of present events
  • understanding and appreciation of our United States through memorization of states, their capitals, and important events
  • career exploration papers and projects
  • Native American papers and projects
  • interview projects
  • PowerPoint country projects

Portfolios display the pride the children have in their hard work to their parents, their peers, and to themselves.

Teaching is a most noble profession.  It is one that allows us to share the perpetuation of life.
