Edlin WonBirthplace:  I was born and raised here in Hawai‘i.

Education:  Elementary Education from the University of Hawaii and Chaminade University.

Subject/Grades:  Third Grade Teacher; Previously taught Catechism CCD classes, 1st and 2nd grades at Star of the Sea.

Year started at Star of the Sea:  1995

I remember coming to Star of the Sea Church every Sunday morning for the 10:15 mass, since I was a young girl. It was a very special time for my family. Growing up in a Catholic environment was an important part of my life.

Being a teacher here at Star of the Sea has now given me a chance to share my faith with my students. Star of the Sea is one big family, where children grow and learn to excel towards their highest potential.

My third grade classroom has a variety of hands-on learning centers which reinforce our curriculum and instructional lessons. Each month, we complete thematic unit studies which allow students to expand their knowledge through research and experimentation. In third grade we do a unit on Hawaiian studies. We study the geography of the Hawaiian Islands and the history of the ancient Hawaiians.

Throughout the school year, the students work on individualized student portfolios. Each portfolio showcases their progress during the year. The highlight of the school year is viewing the work and achievements each student portfolio displays. Photos, drawings, projects and essays are just a few examples.

Each year is exciting for me. I really enjoy the students and wonderful faculty with whom I come in contact with every day. Star of the Sea School, with its Catholic environment and educational surroundings, has so much to offer.
